The language of love

Spessamente miei amici mi danno
una domanda: Perche vuoi imparare italiano?

Oftenly my friends ask me
a question: Why do you want to learn italian?

Di solito le rispondero:
Perche il calcio, mi piace lo sport.
Ogni fine settimana, guardo a televisore
le partite di Serie-A.

Usually I respond them:
Because of soccer, I like the sport.
Every weekend,I watch at TV
the matches of Serie-A.

È mezzo vero!
Ma non è tutta la verita.

It’s half true!
But not all the truth.

La prima ragione è perche…
forse ne possiamo dire: amore.

The first reason is because…
maybe we can say it: love.

C’era una ragazza che mi piace,
lei voleva scrivere una lettera
al suo idolo, il portiere della
squadra azzuri, il numero uno
d’italiano: Gianluigi Buffon.

There was a girl that I like,
she wanted to write a letter
to her idol, the goalkeeper of
Azzuri team, the Italian number
one: Gianluigi Buffon.

Io compravo due libri.
Un dizzionario e libro di grammatica.
Scrivevo poi, sembra come una poesia,
pero non è molto chiaro e
grammaticamente corretto.

I bought two books.
A dictionary and grammar book.
I wrote then, seems like a poetry,
but not so clear and grammatically
correct.

Qualche mesi hanno andato dopo questo,
ho dimenticato presto. Pero la volonta
ricresce piu per apprendere l’italiano vero.

Some months have gone after that,
I’ve forgotten soon. But the will
regrow more to learn the real italian.

Ho studiato a IIC, solo tre mesi per
completare il primo livello.

I’ve studied at IIC, only three months to
complete the first level.

L’insegnante era Signorina Melania.
Lei ci ha imparato. Le lezioni ha piu
enfasi di conversazione. Non usavamo
i libri spesso, pero sempre parlavamo
nella classe.

The teacher was Miss Melania.
She has taught us. The lesson has more
emphasis of conversation. We didn’t
use the books often, but we always
talked at the class.

E la ragazza? Non c’era piu il racconto
romantico tra noi. Poi io sono sembra come
un straniero. Ho finito di primo livello,
pero non c’era il secondo, perche quasi
di tutti studenti non continuare.

And the girl? There wasn’t romantic story
between us. Then I am seems as a stranger.
I’ve finished of the first level, but there
wasn’t the second, because most of
all the students didn’t continue.

Io ricordo Maranatha e Erikson, due fratelli
che anche essere gli studenti la insieme con me.
Adesso loro sono in Genova, per fare un affare
di ristorante. Buono per loro!

I remember Maranatha and Erikson, two brothers
that also become the students together with me.
Now they are in Genova, to do business of
restaurant. Good for them!

Ma io? Vorrei continuare pero non c’era
la classe. Poi, prendo i libri e il dizzionario
per leggare quasi di ogni notte.

But I? I’d continue but there was no class.
Then, I take the books and the dictionary
to read almost every night.

Poi, ascoltavo le canzoni italiano per imparare
con le liriche. Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli,
Il Divo, Russel Watson e l’altri.
Loro sono gli insegnanti miei che
mi hanno insegnato con cantare.

Then, I listened the italian songs to learn
with the lyrics. Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli,
Il Divo, Russel Watson and others.
They are my teachers who have taught me
with singing.

Qualche canzoni di Groban è sembra
la riflessione del mio cuore.
La ragazza… non parlava piu con me,
ho svanito da lei perche la conversazione
tra noi non sentito carina piu.

Some songs of Groban is seems the
reflection of my heart.
The girl… didn’t speak anymore to me,
I’ve vanished from her because the conversation
between us didn’t heard nice anymore.

Allora, so di parlare e scrivere italiano
con solamente quattro grammatiche:
Presente, passato, progressivo e futuro.

Then, I can speak and write italian
with only four grammars:
present, past, progressive and future.

Piu meno quattro anni hanno passato.
Non continuavo la lezione piu,
solo usare l’italiano per pensare
nel cuore quando in malinconia,
veramente quando le sto pensando,
perche l’italiano è la lingua che
ho imparato per aiutarle di scrivere.

More or less four years have passed.
I didn’t continue the lesson anymore,
only use italian to think inside heart
when in melancholy, truly when I am thinking
of her, because italian is the language
that I’ve learned to help her to write.

C’è un vuoto dentro me quando
non parlavamo. Lei ha andato a l’altro
paese per studiare, mentre io devo
lavorare. Ho dimenticato il sogno
per andare in Italia, perche la realta è cosi,
non posso scrivere tutto qui.

There’s an emptyness inside me when
we didn’t talk. She has gone to other country
for studying, while I must work.
I’ve forgotten the dream to go to Italy,
because the reality is like this, I can’t
write all here.

Poi… ho scritto a una amica di lei,
che anche essere mia amica a FRIENDSTER.
Lei si chiama Felisia, una nuova studentessa
di IIC. Ha scritto una quotazione con italiano
poi mi svegliavoo… è la lingua che mi conosco.

Then… I’ve written to a friend of her,
who also become my friend a FRIENDSTER.
She is called Felisia, a new student
of IIC. She has written a quotation with
italian then I’m awaken…it’s the language
that I know.

La corrispondenza continua, chiacchieravamo
molte cose… dopo finalmente abbiamo incontrato
poi discuteravamo la nostra amica.

The correspondence continues, we chat
many things… after finally we have met
then discussed our friend.

Lei sa molte cose circa di noi…
Anche lei che vuole di essere l’angelo di amore,
l’agente di segreta che fare il missione
per riconnettere io con la ragazza.

She knows many things about us…
Also she who wants to be the cupid,
the secret agent who do the mission
for reconnecting me with the girl.

Con l’italiano scrivo a la ragazza, mi risponde
in francese… è buffa! Possiamo capire
ogni altro di noi con due lingue diversi.

With italian I write to her, she responds me
in french… it’s funny! We can understand
each other with two different languages.

In estate di questo anno, io incontravo
la ragazza dopo qualche mesi di corrispondenza.
Il racconto non lo stesso piu perche forse
dopo quattro anni senza parole tra noi,
c’è l’emozione che sta ricrescendo.

In summer of this year, I met the girl after
some months of correspondence. The story not
the same anymore because maybe after four years
without words between us, there’s emotion
that is regrowing.

Ma solo un mese insieme perche ha la vacanza,
adesso sta continuando per studiare alla
sua universita.

But only one month together because she has
the holiday, now she’s continuing to study
at her university.

Qualche volta io sento confondere.
Tutto inizio da lei, e spero che
finira con lei anche.

Sometime I feel confuse.
All begins from her, and I hope that
will end with her also.

Il mondo è stretto, posso rincontrare
con lei perche di FRIENDSTER e l’aiuto
di una amica che sta studiando italiano.

The world is narrow, I can re-meet
with her because of FRIENDSTER and the
help of a friend who’s studying italian.

Se non c’era la ragazza, non ho imparato italiano.

Se non ho imparato italiano, non ho
corrispondenza con l’amica di lei.

Se non c’è la corrispondenza,
non ricontinuero il racconto tra noi.

If there wasn’t the girl, I haven’t learned italian.

If I haven’t learned italian, I have no correspondence
with her friend.

If there is no correspondence, i won’t recontinue
the story between us.

Si, non ho andato mai in Italia.
Ma l’esperienza con la lingua è sembra
un taglio italiano… pieno di romanzi.

Yes, I haven’t gone to Italy.
But the experience with the language is seems
an italian style… full of romance.

Come un racconto, dove c’è il protagonisto
che avere il viaggio. Al mezzo della strada,
c’è l’ostacolo. C’è il secondo carratere,
che essere un ispirazione.

Like a story, where the main character
is having the voyage. At the middle of the
street there is obstacle. There is the
second character, who become an inspiration.

Poi loro hanno separato… allora c’è
il carratere chiave che anche essere
il ponte.

Then they have separated… next there is
the key character who also become the bridge.

Poi? Non capisco come finira il racconto.
Pero sempre spero che possiamo di essere
piu di buon amici.

Then? I don’t know how the story will end.
But I always hope that we can be more
than good friends.

L’italiano è una lingua brava!
Ho iniziato, sto imparando, e ne mi prendi
per una esperienza. Questa è la spezia
della vita, è l’amore.

Italian is a great language!
I’ve started, I’m learning, and it takes me
for an experience. This is the spice
of life, it is love.

Know yourself and others

Let’s see the phases of relationship,
either personal or working.

* Total stranger
We never knew each other

* Initiate contact
This is where FIRST IMPRESSION
become very important

* Acquaintance
Several contacts been made
and each party is evaluating one
another based on trait, habit, etc.

Yes… this is where ramifications
will come.

You will have to decide:

- Avoid
This is when you realize the
relationship is going nowhere
or worse will make you threatened
or dragged into troubles.

- Neutral
The other is not so good and also
not so bad. Just plain and that’s it.

- Attracted
Both feel compatible, can bring
benefit to each other.

Know yourself, know others,
then you’ll be victorious
through thousand of battles.

We knew the strength of a horse
after long journey.
We knew the quality of someone
after long friendship.
(Chinese proverb)

Tao Zhu Gong, who were once
named Fan Li, put this as the
first principle:

Neng shi ren
(Ability to know people)

It’s about character, personality,
tendency, attitude, conduct, etc.

You can start telling of someone
from… what?

The look, the way the are fashioned
and groomed. Like it or not,
that’s what first impression really
are.

Then small-talk, how organized and
fluent their speech, the content,
non-verbal message or body-language.

And?

From the people they have been
dealing with, their peer-groups,
their associate, their social circle.

People tend to befriend with those
who have similar values.

And from what they have done,
they’re doing and they will do.

That’s the order.

1. What they’ve done, shows the
quality of who they are so far.

2. What they’re doing, is who they
are at the present.

3. Last, but sometimes not so
important: What they will do…

"I will…"

"I wanna be…"

"I am planning to…"

How often you heard those phrases
easily flying off their mouth?

It doesn’t really matter.

See, if they’re still at
‘Ground zero’ it means all those
wishes are just empty sayings.

Check, are they really preparing,
upgrading or equipping themselves
to be what they WANNA BE.

That’s the difference between
a realistic and planned person,
OR… a person full of crap!

You can tell about someone from
other, their friends who tell
about them.

There are 4 categories of people
related to you:

-Stranger, haven’t know you yet
To them, build nice first impression.

-Neutral, they knew you but …
just like that. To them, maintain
politeness and try to be more
friendly so that you can at least
someday be remembered as someone
with something.

-Admirer, treat them well.
Turn them to be friend, so they
will stop ‘worshipping’ you.
Admit mistakes when you did.
Don’t disappoint them.

-Haters, ouch! Though you’ve tried
to be nice to all. Sometimes…
there are kind of people who seems
to be unhappy with whatever you’re
doing. They even spread gossips,
backstab, or worse can attack you!

To stop gossip, build good image.
Knew when to speak and when to stop.
Befriend with people in
media industry.

To avoid backstabbers,
or trouble-makers, or gold-diggers,
hmm.. it is important to avoid
those bunch of people from several
first contacts.

To those who attack you, show
some mercy, forgive them, forget it
and ask them to stop.

Maintain harmony and peace.

Argue if you must.

Use legal methods if it can’t
be settled with logic.

Or use physical power… only when
all else fails.

But here’s the conclusion.

You can’t control people’s opinion
about you. All you can do is
build relation, create image and
be nice to all.

Let’s say, from millions of people
who admire David Beckham, there
are thousands or hundreds who hate
him because he is …
<whatever you wish to comment!>

If you are him, what would you do?

Just be cool, concentrate on those
millions who adore you, and ignore
those who can only give insult.

That’s life, there will always be
someone who love or hate you.

Even as when I write this blog,
soon I will either earn respect
and request to write some more
from you, my readers…

Or mock and confrontations
from other group of readers
who think that I am …

I remembered meeting an expatriate
who offered me business cooperation.

He thought of me as compatible to
his type (ooops now I reveal that
he is a man)… of partner.

That Philippine (now you know where
he came from, at least that’s
what he admitted) met me as I was
at local bookstore.

He praised me of being smart,
ambitious, have determination,
know purpose in life, can be
a succesful person, bla..bla..

Then Mr.Howard (that’s his name!)
invited me to meet him at a Cafe.

But… we don’t have dinner that
evening. We really met IN FRONT OF
the Cafe, not INSIDE!

Then we entered the lift, into
his office… guess what?

Presentation begins! It’s an MLM
company looking for new members.

They promised that by joining,
will help to get rich quickly.

Good question… who?

The owner and those who already
registered first, of course!

Then you will have to persuade
(or sacrifice) your friends and
family to either buy those expensive
products or drag them to join and
make them richer.

But by how? first, make them poorer
and who knows if you can find
someone as smart as you,
then you’ll get the money back,
and so on… until maybe you
will really get rich…
or die and still wishing!

I simply decided: No, thanks.
It’s not gonna work!

Too many fake smiles there.
Those speakers are so well-trained.
Those viewers are old members
who also already trained to answer:

YES! YES! YES!

Good morning, everyone…
Here is always morning.

Do you want a GOOD life?
Or GREAT life?
How? By working? How if you can
get more until you don’t have to
work again?

Wow…

Imagine… you have 20 million
rupiahs for each month… what would
you buy?

Sorry Sir, I can’t.

Cause it’s just an imagination.
Nothing real. If the money is
really in my hand (or bank account)

have a real business and looking
for a business partner.

But MLM? No, thanks!

There is no such thing of free lunch,
not even dinner! Next time, I should
be more specific in asking…

"Are we going to meet INSIDE or
IN FRONT OF the Cafe?"

Now… I will make the categories
of people based on MLM

-Never heard about MLM

My advice is, get a real job.
Don’t waste your own money, energy
and time to make the company owner
become richer.

Compare it…

If you work as marketing
executive (salesperson)
for a real company,
you still can at least
earn salary. You will at least
can eat lunch.

When you’re sick or
having accident while working,
the office will pay your hospital
and medicine.

You can use office phone or earn
cell-phone budget to make contacts
with prospective clients.

And.. you sell to people who
really want to buy instead of
using relationship with good friends
or family to make them (reluctantly
but for the sake of "Since I know
you well…") buy your MLM products.

-Have heard and decide: No, thanks

-A member and now rich as promised

Well, good for you!

How many head have you stomped?
How many have you invited and
turn to be as rich as you?

Do you really think it’s your
business just because your house
now become a warehouse of their
products which you already buy
with membership? and wish to re-sell
to your friends?

As employee, normally people
got paid with salary,
not paying in the beginning
without certainty of who will buy.

Actually here’s the cash-flow,
your richness now is from people
who become members and have paid
a lot to the company owner and
those who invite them, and one
of them is you!

-A member and frustrated. Pity you!

At least, now you’ve learned that’s
life. Earning money isn’t that easy
as displayed on their presentation
sheets.
